wyatt's nursery

Since my little baby will be 2 in just a few months, I've started thinking about the changes I will make to his room for his big boy room.  I was looking through pictures on my computer and came across these pictures of his nursery - taken before he was here.

I loved finding these because although I hadn't forgotten the way the nursery started, pictures just make you remember more memories from from the past.  I rearrange things all the time so it hasn't looked like this for awhile and it honestly brought a smile to my face to look back at the pictures.

Wyatt's "Around the World" Nursery

I don't love themes but I used the I've Got the Whole World Canvas as a starting point for the room. It features cities around the world in the ABC format. I used trinkets that my grandfather and my husband brought back from their travels around the world. Both traveled for work and have had amazing opportunities to go places around the globe.

I used a lot of what we already owned for the nursery and didn't even change the wall paint color so now I'm ready to have some fun with the big boy room - it's up next...

inspiration found

Last year when I was loving the treehouse,
I also found the images below of a house in Florida that reminded me of the treehouse:

all images via Left on Amelia

Clearly, this house is much newer and the style is more modern but the colors and the setting really captured my attention.  I love the backyard & the marsh! and how the pool fits right in the middle of the house.  I love the tower (also treehouse like) and just the simplicity of everything.

The setting of a home can really enhance the overall appearance and I believe this setting is truly amazing.
How fun would this backyard be for kids??

I'm filing this away for ideas for a "someday house."

recharged. and ready to go.

ever have one of those weekends that completely changes your mood and outlook for the better and makes you feel like you can take on the world?  that's what happened last weekend for me.

i escaped for a couple of days to see my family and was able to spend time with them and have no set place to be, no one to take care of, no schedule... and it was amazing.

i shopped with the ladies of my family, spent mothers day with my mom and both grandmas, went to my sisters engagement party, shopped at target without a toddler, went for a walk in beautiful weather, admired a wall of wine, met new friends, ate good food, etc...

after all of that i came back home full of new ideas and completely recharged... here's to hoping i can keep up the blog - full of new ideas and exciting festivities to come this year.

Byron Bay renovation

Today I came across these beautiful images of a beach house renovation - everything I believe a beach house should be... bright, open, airy, tropical and perfect for family.  All pictures by Prue Ruscoe. Found here.

I love this little sandbox in the shade!

Simple & basic.

Now to find time to escape...

wish list : metal roof

Let's discuss a metal roof...

1.  More expensive initially (than standard asphalt shingles) but saves in long term maintenance costs
2.  Extremely durable & long lasting
3.  Goes well with many styles of architecture
4.  Lots of colors available
5.  100% recyclable material
6.  Saves in home heating and cooling energy costs
7.  Resistance to elements (wind, hail, fire)

One item by husband I and agree on if we were to build another house is a metal roof.  We both like the visual look of the metal roof as well as the benefits of it.  If we were to buy our next house, it wouldn't be a necessary item but definitely would be a nice extra.

I love how all the homes above are different in style and location yet are all pleasing to the eye with the metal roof.  Most of the pictures feature the darker colors but light colors are also available.  I love the wow factor of the red roof and wish I was brave enough to try something out of the ordinary like that.

Opinions? Thoughts?
